South Africa’s environmental and water management legislation strictly regulates wastewater disposal in this country. The laws are non-negotiable and management strategies must be put in place by manufacturing plants, mines and other industrial role players to ensure that they comply with the legislation.
All compressed air systems produce waste that needs to be disposed of safely. For example, a desiccant dryer works on a regenerative system, which means that for part of your drying cycle, air contaminated with water and oil is dumped into the atmosphere. This wastewater must be collected and disposed of safely. You cannot put contaminated water down the waste water system.
On mines and in factories, it is important to ensure these wastewaters are purified up to a standard where it will be environmentally safe to dispose.
Here is an example of what can happen when safe waste disposal is ignored.
In order to avoid a situation like this, Polar air can supply a compressed air condensate separator for each of our air dryer models ranging from the AD 10 to AD 1500.
They come in 5 different sizes and can be fitted to all pneumatic drain valves including timer drains, float drains or manual drains.
As condensate flows into the Sepremium separator, the oil is filtered out through various filtration elements. The first oil adsorbing element has a visual saturation level indicator to let you know when its time for a service and filter element change. The final separation stage includes a second polypropylene element and activated carbon to polish out the remaining contaminants.
The oil adsorbing elements combine various types of adsorption technologies to achieve less than 10ppm oil residue values at the output stage. This filtered water can then be reused for regular daily activities like watering the garden. But please remember, the water will not yet be safe for human consumption.
